PCX Viewer Online — Free ZSoft PC Paintbrush Image Decoder | Online Gallery

Open legacy ZSoft PCX bitmaps with palette decoding and PNG export. Decode legacy ZSoft PC Paintbrush PCX bitmap images with run-length encoding, color palettes, and PNG export.

What is PCX Viewer and what does it do?

The PCX Image Viewer decodes legacy ZSoft PCX bitmap files and renders them to an HTML5 Canvas.

Supports 1, 4, 8, and 24-bit PCX formats with RLE decompression.

  • Decode PCX RLE-compressed scanlines and render the full bitmap to canvas.
  • Display image dimensions, bit depth, DPI, and manufacturer info from header.
  • Export the decoded image as a PNG file.
  • Show a color palette swatch grid for 8-bit indexed PCX images.

How does PCX Viewer work?

Reads the 128-byte PCX header to extract dimensions and bit depth, decodes RLE scanlines byte-by-byte, maps indexed pixels through the 256-color palette, and writes RGBA data to ImageData for canvas rendering.

100% private: all processing happens locally in your browser using client-side WebAssembly, WebCrypto, WebAudio, and HTML5 Canvas. Your files are never uploaded to any server.
